Eric Mitchell provides consulting services to B.E.G. with regards
to financing, corporate strategy and production and distribution
arrangements in the independent market place.
Eric Mitchell has a strong background
in finance, corporate strategy, and operations in the entertainment
industry. Mitchell started his career as an executive with Sony
Pictures Entertainment’s Tri-Star Pictures division where
he was responsible for all aspects of strategic and financial
planning within the motion picture group, and was instrumental
in the studio’s acquisition of foreign rights on such
features as CLIFFHANGER, SNIPER, A RIVER RUNS THROUGH IT, WIND,
THREESOME, and WEEKEND AT BERNIE’S 2.
Mitchell assisted Tri-Star’s Vice
Chairman in acquiring multi-picture distribution rights with
Carolco Pictures, a deal generating a groundbreaking $250 million
in profit and spawning such hits as L.A. STORY, UNVIERSAL SOLDIER,
THE DOORS, TOTAL RECALL, BASIC INSTINCT, and TERMINATOR 2. Financially,
Mr. Mitchell assisted Tri-Star in negotiating a joint venture
with JSB/Indieprod, generating $150 million in production money
for the company.
Following Tri-Star, Mitchell became CEO
of Outwest Entertainment, Inc., a publicly traded music company,
where he acquired such projects as the Shattered Image soundtrack
and LA Gang Godfather soundtrack (produced by DJ Quik). During
his tenure with the company, he helped raise approximately $2
million for its projects and saw the company’s stock price
rise from approximately $0.25 to over $4.00.
Leaving Outwest, he formed Epicenter
Filmed Entertainment, an entertainment finance company focusing
on consulting, production finance, and advice regarding film
and music distribution strategies. Mitchell has advised several
top independent production companies including the Mark Canton
Company, Ed Pressman Film Corporation, Woods Entertainment,
and Mosaic/Atlas Entertainment, as well as Digital Domain, Bergman
Lustig Productions, Dimitri Villard Productions, Crusader Entertainment,
Baldwin Entertainment Group, and VIP Mediafonds.
Mitchell is a graduate of Carnegie Mellon
University and received his Masters in Management from the Massachusetts
Institute of Technology’s Sloan School of Management.
He has also taught “Producing the Independent Film”
classes at the UCLA Extension Center.
